hello,

If I try to run the upgrade_tool it throws the following error:

upgrade_tool: 1: upgrade_tool: Syntax error: ")" unexpected

on the moment I'm on lubuntu 160309.

Pls post the full command .. typing error ")" ?

Code: Select all
sudo ./upgrade_tool di linuxroot /path/to/rootfs.img

Copy the rootfs.img into the same folder where the upgrade_tool is located ..

Code: Select all
sudo ./upgrade_tool di linuxroot rootfs.img

you need to run this command from linux machine connected to your geekbox in loader mode.

cheers

Have a look here .. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=41

You can compare the upgrade_tool with the fastboot tool from google world.

Good luck !

Are you doing a fresh install or an upgrade ? I saw that in the past LTS versions could be updated from previous to next with good results, does this still hold true ?...

It's a fresh install .. not sure if the upgrade will work fine on geekbox.

Hi,

Many thanks for this - great work! I was able to flash the rootfs.img from Update.ZIP_Ubuntu-MATE_16.04-LTS_arm64_V160424.zip using upgrade_tool and everything seems to have gone smoothly. I started from Geekbox_Lubuntu_V160309.

Is there any possibility of installing a 4.x kernel? The 4.9.13-19 kernel I have on an XU4 seems to be better at moving work to the faster processors than the 3.10.0 kernel.

Thanks again!

James

No .. not as I know.

Only 3.x - but have a try to compile and boot.
